Cafe Brun | Fine bare stone wall decor in this busy bar where we were served by an Irish barmaid. A wide range of draught beers included Murphy's and Paulaner when I visited.

Cafe des Arts | A rather splendid interior with marble wall panels and mosaic floor, but the ceiling is missing, exposing bare beams and upstairs plumbing! Beers on tap include the rather nice Wendelinus Abbeye.

Bar Sampdoria | Beers on tap included Belgian and French brews in this long and narrow cafe/bar which was busy when I visited. The wall is decorated with plaques from various warships and submarines which have visited the port.

Cafe Hasard | Two beers from the Alsace's Fischer brewery on tap in this traditional French bar with friendly customers and staff. Unusually it has the British arrangement of a bar side and a lounge side, as well as a dining room behind.

Au Quai d'Esperance | A nice cafe bar serving snacks and full meals. Beers on tap included Kronenberg's Biere de Noël when I was there. Take your wellies to the gents.

Ecu | A traditional large street corner cafe/bar with a number of draught beers including Weickse Wit, Pelforth Brun, Leffe Blonde, Carlsberg, Elephant etc. etc. They have the correct labeled glass for each brew.

Bodega Y Estacion | A station bar/restaurant decorated in Spanish style serving Heineken and Affligem Blonde on tap.

La Grande Bourse | This rather pleasant large cafe bar with nice traditional decor and lots of tables outside is located just across the road from the Roman arena. The Wieckse Witte was very nice, although served with a slice of lemon in. The gents has an unusual pneumatic flush.

Pattiserie Courtois | This cafe has a beautiful interior with mirrors and painted glasswork. Bottled beer only, and very nice food.

Grand Café le Régent | A large cafe plus a large conservatory outside (presumably dismantled in the summer). Taps for Stella, Hoegaarden and Leffe plus a range of bottles including a geuze and Desperado (which is flavoured with Tequilla). Excellent salads at lunch time.

Le Verdon | A typical ferry bar on a car ferry which runs between Royan and Le Verdon across the Gironde estuary. Heineken, Kronenberg and Pelforth Brun in bottles along with the usual selection of sandwiches and pastries. The ferry has an unusual sloping deck with obviates the need for land bridges at the terminals.
