Babelas Continental Bar | You never know what to expect in a required GBG tick, this one turned out to be a very stylishly decorated shop conversion. The small counter has three handpumps, two had clips so I selected the one I'd never heard of. The barmaid had some difficulty getting a pint out, it was obviously the last pint. It was very murky and a quick sniff told me it was very sour. I promptly rejected it and she pulled me a Landlord instead. While it was settling she served the next customer, then the other staff member appeared from the back and topped mine up. I took a sip: "Much better, that other one is horrible", I commented. She did a double take and then said "oops*, that's my fault" and moved the clip to the third pump. Too late for me, of course, but my Landlord was spot on.
*The word she used wasn't actually "oops". Last visited August 2024. |

Old Horse | Slightly quirky fun decor in this traditional boozer doing a roaring trade consisting mainly of families dining. An Everard's house so mainly their beers on offer, I had an excellent Sunchaser.

Parcel Yard | This looks a bit like a tiny micro-pub as you enter the door, but that's just the lobby; once you're down the short flight of stairs you find a large open bar with another large room to the rear. Quality ales are served.

Wetherspoon's Corn Exchange | A rather fine conversion of an old building, presumably the corn exchange. More tables and another servery on a mezzanine floor. Popular as you might expect on a Saturday afternoon.

Wetherspoon's High Cross | A typical Wetherspoon's with standard "traditional" styling. Very busy on a Saturday afternoon but still providing prompt service.
