ALGIERS
Dry Dock Cafe This nice pleasant local bar, decorated with a faintly maritime theme, has a U shaped bar area plus a dining room behind. Most of the customers seemed to be local residents. Taps include Abita Bock, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Harp and Woodpecker Cider, and the beer is served in a British-style nonic glass. Happy hour at 17.00 includes free nibbles.

NEW ORLEANS
Bubba Gump Shrimp Company This bar / seafood restaurant has decor best described as chaotic! Bud, Bud Light, Miller Light and Abita Amber are available on tap. The the only time I tried to watch the film Forest Gump I fell asleep ten minutes in, so I didn't know the name comes from the film, which probably explains why it was showing on the TV when I was there.

Cajun Cabin A very noisy bar/diner with a live Cajun band, decorated with a maritime and beer neon theme. The food is recomended, especially the Cajun platter. LSTV.

Cats Meow This is one of the famous bars on Bourbon Street, and you can check out activity there on their webcams here. No draught beer and full of youngsters, but what did you expect? A noisy, fun karaoke downstairs and more bars in the courtyard and upstairs. Of course you must go and stand on the famous balcony.

Crescent City Brewhouse The antique interior of this large bar/restaurant would appear to be largely spoof, perhaps recovered from the Jackson Brewery across the road. Their range of beers brewed on the premises includes an excellent wheat, and the food is very good. You can watch the oyster shucker at work behind the bar (That's the fella who opens the shells of the fresh oysters) and don't forget to sample some as well.

Decatur Street / Toulouse Street
Krazy Korner Abita Amber and Miller Lite are on tap in this noisy bar with a live band who were playing 70s and 80s music when I was there, which probably explained why the customers were a little older than in the Cats Meow across the way.

Harry's Corner This plain friendly pub seemed to be more popular with locals than tourists. Bud, Bud Light and Abita Amber are on draught, served in plastic glasses.

Kerry Irish Bar This nice narrow corridor bar has a pool table at the back. Taps include Guinness, Harp, Bass and Killeans Red. The barman's accent oscillated between American and Irish! Live entertainment every night.

Le Moyne's Landing This modern construction at the edge of a new plaza is basically a small barn with patio doors along three sides. Very quiet on a Tuesday evening. Abita Amber, Fosters' and Bud on tap, served in plastic cups.

Mr. B's Bistro A large up market eatery with a nice bar at one end which was full until the table for twelve was ready. Only bottled beer, including Abita Amber and Sam Adams. The decor is pleasant dark wood panelling and wooden beams, and the pianist adds to the atmosphere.

Monaghan's Erin Rose This is about the closest you'll get to a "real" Irish bar, although there didn't seem to be any Irish there when I visited. Pleasant and peaceful after a night on Bourbon Street.

Dauphine Street / Conti Street
O'Flaherty's Irish Pub Bare brick and wood beam decor in this pleasant friendly Irish pub. A canoe hangs above the bar. When I visited an excellent Irish girl was singing folk songs in French, English and Gaelic and playing a bouzouki!

Decatur Street / Toulouse Street
Old Absinthe House This pleasant old pub with a square island counter and a restaurant to the rear is less noisy and frantic than many on Bourbon Street. The walls are covered in business cards, up to one inch thick in places. See if you can spot mine!

Pat O'Briens No draught beer, so we had to put up with a can of Dixie. This multiroomed bar is the original one in a small chain, and is the same as the one I visted in Orlando, with identical interior decoration (Steins hanging from the ceiling and champagne bottles for lampshades). It even has the same flaming fountain in the courtyard.

Port Orleans This pleasant bar/restaurant has a live band which is not too loud if you sit at the other end of the bar! Another one with an oyster shucker. There's a nice six foot model of a paddle steamer above the bar.
Watch out for the step on the way to the gents!
