Alexandra John Smith's / 1664, Carling, Foster's A large nicely done out pub with a number of rooms knocked through. The decor is traditional with wood panelling and lots of old photographs and etchings. Very busy on Saturday afternoon.
Noted closed and tinned up in 2011, but back in action pretty much unchanged by 2014.

Champs (Marine) John Smith's, Tetley / Carling, Coors, Heineken, Stella My notes on the Marine from 2003 say two bars plus a large front room in this corner pub, mainly nicely decorated but in need of some care and attention in places.
Returning in 2018 I found it had been knocked through to create a pleasant well looked after sports bar in one larger room.

Ferndale (Kiss Club) (Ferndale Lodge) Tetley / Carling, Carlsberg Back in 2011 I recorded the standard pleasant, slightly tatty "Oak Lodges" decor in this large open one-roomed flat house. Returning in I found it plain and well cared for. Friendly regulars.

Flanagan's Tetley, Worthington / Carling, Carlsberg, Coors This rather nicely decorated Irish-themed bar seems to be built in a large barn. Ticking over on a Tuesday afternoon, when I received some free corned beef hash! The decor includes a scull suspended from the ceiling above the bar.

Liver Hotel Hand pumpvarious, Tetley / Carling, Carlsberg, Hop House 13 A fine exterior over 500 years old, beautiful interior, friendly staff and a perfect pint of bitter - What more could one want in a pub? The lounge is a large partially knocked through area with wide openings between the wood-panelled rooms. There is a plainer bar side. Free function room available.

Old Bank
Pic
Hand pumpvarious, John Smith's, Tetley / Carling, Foster's, Stella This pub has a nice antique exterior - perhaps it is an old bank. Inside there are two rooms knocked through into one. They look a bit untidy at first glance but in fact that's just a surfeit of music and football posters and memorabilia, and the place is spotless and well cared for. The customers all seemed to be pensioners when I paid a Saturday afternoon visit in 1999 and when I returned in 2011 I was once again the youngest customer, and I was pleased to find three real ales, all from the Liverpool One brewery on sale. On a 2003 visit I assisted as a roadie for a singer who'd injured her foot!

Railway Boddingtons, John Smith's / Carling, Foster's, San Miguel On a visit in 2000 I described this place as scruffy, but it has since been nicely tidied up - the decor is plain but the place is well cared for and clean and tidy. A small marble plaque is dedicated to all who suffered at Hillsborough.
