A pleasant large free-standing pub/hotel with a view over the Mersey from the tables out front. There's also a large beer garden and play area at the back.

Hooton Arms

This splendid antique pub is well preserved and well kept. On my most recent visit the Speckled Hen was of mediocre quality. Tables in the tiny front yard.

Montgomery (Stanley Arms)

 |
The traditional bare bricks decor of the Stanley Arms has been replaced by contemporary pastel colours in this large free standing (fake) half-timbered building, and under the new name it's more of a restaurant than a pub, but there's still a bar area for drinkers. The real ale was of poor quality when I visited, hopefully a one-off.

New Rake Hotel (Rake)

This classic early sixties two bar estate pub is well cared for and nicely decorated, with art deco style lanterns in the ceiling.
