| Montgomery (Stanley Arms) |
The traditional bare bricks interior of the Stanley Arms has been replaced by contemporary pastel colours in this large free standing (fake) half-timbered building, and under the new name it's more of a restaurant than a pub, but there's still a bar area for drinkers. The real ale was of poor quality when I visited in 2015, and has since disappeared. A substantial refurbishment in 2024 has resulted in a very attractive interior. They continue to concentrate on dining but still welcome drinkers. Last visited August 2025. |
Stanley Lane / Church Lane |
| Rake Hotel (Rake) |
A classic two bar estate pub dating from 1960, well cared for and nicely decorated, with art deco style lanterns in the ceiling. The staff are cheerful and welcoming, even when a pub researcher forgot to sign in during COVID. This kind of un-modernised 50s/60s estate pub is becoming increasingly rare nowadays.
