Athol Vaults
|
A plain, knocked round bar plus a lounge across the corridor. I was the only customer on a Sunday afternoon when the only bitter available was in cans. Shortly after my visit this place was advertised to let in the Echo. Now closed.

Atlantic

Nice (fake) antique decor, great atmosphere and live music most days in this very friendly pub with sawdust on the floor. Occasional off pints. Late licence. The attached C&W bar is called the Iron Horse, and at quiet times only one of the two will be open.
2002: I'm told the real ale has gone.
Now closed and demolished.

Glass House

In the past the outside was so scruffy that on my first visit to the area I walked past thinking it was closed. Inside was much nicer - a plain rather pleasant spotlessly clean one bar pub, with an unusual partitioned off snug at one end.
Returning in 2018 I found the outside had been well tidied but was devoid of signage, the inside was as good as ever.
In 2022 I found the outside a different colour but still without signs.

A plain large two-sided pub with a pool table in both sides. It seemed rather scruffy when I visited in 1999, but it has been very nicely redecorated since then. Sadly, now closed.

A lino floor and vinyl bench seat contrast with rather twee plastic half timbering and beams in this very nicely looked after knocked through one bar one room pub with lively, friendly locals. A structural pillar is the "Arthur Fenlon Post 1918 - 1968".
Now closed and demolished in 2017.

Royal Crest Hotel (Convivial Hotel) (Sherlock's) (Coast)
|
Sherlock's: A fine interior with bare brick walls in this one-bar pub which has a sunken wood panelled pool room with a balcony above. The carpet, with a "Sherlocks" pattern, was somewhat threadbare.
In 2022 I discovered the Royal Crest, a very well done refurbishment creating a pleasant modern styled pub.

Throstles Nest (One Flew Over The ...)
|
In 1999 I described this place as being somewhat run down. It had an enormous, very tatty disco area at the back, decorated with a "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" theme.
I returned in 2003 to find that behind the revolving door the interior has been splendidly refurbished and is now very pleasant, with some impressive etched mirrors.
Moving on to 2022 it's the last remaining pub on Scottie Road, still good inside but I was a little concerned to see For Sale signs. I believe it has since closed.
