Alexandra

A large nicely done out pub with a number of rooms knocked through. The decor is traditional with wood panelling and lots of old photographs and etchings. Very busy on Saturday afternoon.
Noted closed and tinned up in 2011, but back in action pretty much unchanged by 2014.
Post-lockdown, the great interior continues to be well looked after, and this is a very popular boozer.

This beautiful old building contains a large knocked through one roomed pub, partly divided by a leaded glass screen and nicely done out with some fine wood panelling. LSTV.
I believe this is now closed.

Ferndale (Kiss Club) (Ferndale Lodge)
|
Back in 2011 I recorded the standard pleasant, slightly tatty "Oak Lodges" decor in this large open one-roomed flat house. Returning in 2018 I found it plain and well cared for, with friendly regulars. Nothing had changed in 2023.

Flanagan's

This rather nicely decorated Irish-themed bar seems to be built in a large barn. Ticking over on a Tuesday afternoon, when I received some free corned beef hash! The decor includes a scull suspended from the ceiling above the bar.

A friendly comfortable micro-pub better than most, and serving superb real ale. Very quiet early Thursday evening, less so on a Saturday afternoon.

A fine exterior over 500 years old, beautiful interior, friendly staff and a perfect pint of bitter - What more could one want in a pub? The lounge is a large partially knocked through area with wide openings between the wood-panelled rooms. There is a plainer bar side. Free function room available.

Marine (Marine) (Champs)
|
My notes on the Marine from 2003 say two bars plus a large front room in this corner pub, mainly nicely decorated but in need of some care and attention in places.
Returning in 2018 I found it had been knocked through to create a well looked after sports bar called Champs, in one room.
By 2020 it had reverted to its original name, and is now a very pleasant food-oriented place.

Old Bank
|
This pub had a nice antique exterior - perhaps it is an old bank. Inside there are two rooms knocked through into one. They look a bit untidy at first glance but in fact that's just a surfeit of music and football posters and memorabilia, and the place is spotless and well cared for. The customers all seemed to be pensioners when I paid a Saturday afternoon visit in 1999 and when I returned in 2011 I was once again the youngest customer, and I was pleased to find three real ales, all from the Liverpool One brewery on sale. Moving on to 2020 and a major refurbishment has totally transformed it with an excellent traditionally-styled interior.
On a 2003 visit I briefly assisted as a roadie for a singer who'd injured her foot!

On a visit in 2000 I described this as scruffy, but it has since been nicely tidied up - the decor is great and the place is well cared for. A small marble plaque is dedicated to all who suffered at Hillsborough.

Waterpudlian (Stamps Too)
|
About six handpumps on the bar in this compact one-roomed friendly pub which manages to squeeze in a little stage on one side for the frequent live music. The real ale was excellent when I visited.
The name change in 2019 has made no difference.
