A pleasant large free-standing pub/hotel with a view over the Mersey from the tables out front. There's also a large beer garden and play area at the back.

Montgomery (Stanley Arms)
|
The traditional bare bricks decor of the Stanley Arms has been replaced by contemporary pastel colours in this large free standing (fake) half-timbered building, and under the new name it's more of a restaurant than a pub, but there's still a bar area for drinkers. The real ale was of poor quality when I visited, hopefully a one-off.
Not visited since a substantial refurbishment in 2024.

New Rake Hotel (Rake)
|
A classic two bar estate pub dating from 1960, well cared for and nicely decorated, with art deco style lanterns in the ceiling. The staff are cheerful and welcoming, even when a pub researcher forgets to sign in during COVID.
This kind of un-modernised 50s/60s estate pub is becoming increasingly rare nowadays.
