Refurbished and re-opened in early 2000 after a period when it was boarded up, this pleasant open one bar pub in a bull-nosed building was spotlessly clean and still smelled of paint when I visited in February 2000. Returning in 2003 I found it was still looking very nice, and the green decor matches the pool table!
Reported closed in 2014.

Brick (Prince Albert) "Red Brick"
|
This clean and tidy plain boozer has a small counter in a large knocked through room with a wooden floor. There was a nice model of a Liverpool Tram above the bar but it seems to have disappeared.
2007: Nicely redecorated outside in a cream colour and renamed - You can't call it the Red Brick any more.
2010: Noted closed in November.
2018: Back in action, clean, tidy and well looked after.

Hangman (Bank Hall Hotel)
|
The large signs outside gave the impression that this was a cafe - so much so that on my first visit to the area I didn't bother to go in! On my second attempt, in 2000, I found a friendly pub full of boisterous locals playing pool. The dingy interior was somewhat faded but still retained some fine glasswork, tiling and ceiling plasterwork. The John Smith's tasted off - presumably the regulars all drank lager. Three years later I returned to find it is just a cafe now. Closed.

This rather nicely decorated and well cared for pub with wooden ceiling beams has two sides around a square counter. In 2009, on a Saturday evening at six the music was deafening - We made our excuses and left. More recently it was a lot more peaceful.

What a gem! A traditional pub building containing an extremely well looked after two room pub with some fine original features including tiled corridor walls and a wood and stained glass partition. As we approached on a Wednesday evening in 1999 this large corner house appeared boarded up. As we got nearer we realised the steel shutters were down on all the windows. Closer still and the door was seen to be open. Not a very inviting appearance! Returning four years later we found the same shuttered exterior. The interior, on the other hand, is nicely done out with a clean and tidy bar side, and a posh lounge side.

Wetherspoon's Thomas Frost
|
A large open pub with a long mainly-glass frontage on to County Road. Wetherspoon's usual fine beer. On at least one occasion they have run out of real ale on a Saturday evening, but that was a good few years ago.
I must add a note of congratulations to the staff for providing very prompt and efficient service on a number of recent visits despite the pub being packed after an Everton match. More recently I discovered it is equally busy after a game at Anfield.
