Alice's Place (The Blossoms) (Toll Bar) "Bent's House"
|
This plain knocked through one bar pub has 1970s style decor except for the 1950s door. There is a function suite at the back. On my most recent visit the bitter was sour and we had to have a lager instead. Not visited since the latest renaming, and I think it's now closed.

One large square room in a former bank, opened as a pub in 2022 I think. Cheerful and busy when I was there.

Cleveland Arms
|
A well cared for pub with one bar plus a partially knocked through side room, and a pool room at the back. The decor is nicely restrained, the beer is excellent, and the only negative I noted was the too loud jukebox.
Observed closed in 2011, but has re-opened since.

Cyclist (Wetherspoon's John Masefield) "Adolf's Place"
|
A Wetherspoon's shop conversion, opened November 2007, with a wood panel and bare brick interior. Busy whenever I visit.
John Masefield was a writer and poet, best known for "I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky".
The nickname arose because some of the locals thought the picture on the pub sign looked like Hitler.
Wetherspoon's closed 18 June 2023, reopening in August as The Cyclist.

The rather naff looking "bog wall" exterior conceals a plain, slightly tatty interior in this two-sided friendly pub.
Closed in 2010 and now an Indian restaurant.

Freddie's Bar (Freddie's Club)
|
In 2018 this was a pleasant comfortable social club serving quality real ales.
In 2021 it changed to Freddie's Bar and Grill, and real ale is no longer available.

Great Eastern |
A plain but well looked after bar side, and a 'parlour' not visited. The four hand pumps were all off. I'm advised the pub originally featured a number of relics from Brunel's SS Great Eastern, which was broken up at Rock Ferry.
Now closed and demolished.

Little House |
In this three bar pub the decor in the side bar is pale wood floor and bare brick walls. The back room is (fake) half-timbered. LSTV.
In 2006 reported as closed and demolished.

Queens Hotel |
The scruffy exterior hides a pleasant knocked through well cared for one bar pub, perhaps slightly tatty in places. Music too loud. LSTV.
In 2007 I learned this had been closed and demolished to make way for a supermarket.

Railway Inn (The Railway)
|
On the 2003 sign, the first A had a circumflex and the second A had two dots underneath it in a spoof of some Nordic language or other. By 2011 it had gone back to a more normal name. Plain very pleasant interior decor with a pale wood floor. A friendly, welcoming, clean and tidy pub.
