Blue Lion Hotel

A well appointed bar side with LSTV and pool table, and a nicely done lounge. On a Thursday evening most of the people in the lounge were dining.
In 2017 the building was being gutted, I don't know if it is to return as a pub.

A standard micro-pub converted from a shop, with superb ales from no less than ten handpumps. Bare ventilation ducts, fake bare brick walls and the inevitable industrial-style lighting. Limited opening hours, but worth the wait.

In this impressive building the very nicely decorated two sided interior is well looked after. Live music is an important part of the operation.

This residential hotel was closed and derelict in 2018, but has since had an great refurbishment and gained excellent real ale in the multi-roomed ground floor.

A nicely decorated pub partially knocked through but with low walls and wide pillars to break up the space. LSTVs, a pool table and a small dance floor provide youth-oriented entertainment. There's a nice beer garden at the back.
In 1660 Richard Legh of Lyme in Cheshire bought Newton from the Fleetwood family and became Lord of the Manor.
Closed and converted for residential use.

This was closed for some time but had re-opened by April 2000. Rather nice wood floor and (fake I think) antique decor in this friendly pub, knocked through into one room with some nice comfortable sofas at one side.

Real ale is served in the bar, which is open to non-members. The function room hosts an annual beer festival which I can recommend.

When I visited this nicely decorated two bar pub in 2003, it was in dire need of some care and attention and looked rather tatty in places.
Returning in 2010 I found it still fairly plain in decor but now spotless and well cared for.
Noted closed and tinned up in February 2018, demolished in 2022.

Friendly pub with a nice interior, with some splendid tiling. A historic layout in which the two room lounge side is served from two "bay window" hatches at the back of the bar. The long narrow bar side is plainer.
Noted closed in 2023.

A plain friendly bar side with pool table and darts, and comfy sofas, plus a well cared for lounge. The back garden looks very nice.
Arriving at about 8 on a Monday evening in 2010 I was startled to find this place buzzing with locals - One tends to find back-street pubs like this are getting quieter and quieter, but not this one. Returning in 2018 I again found it busy, but less so in 2024.

A large multi-roomed two bar beautifully done out pub. There's a function room upstairs and a children's playground as well as a big beer garden.
Back in 2010 I came close to a major faux-pas here by sitting in the dominoes corner, but fortunately I finished my research before the players arrived.

A pleasant friendly boozer. I guess not many outsiders (Other than pub-guide researchers) ever travel to Vulcan Village. Two large traditionally decorated open rooms around the counter, plus a pool room. Some pictures of the Vulcan Foundry and its products are on display.
